Maggie's quilt

This was made for a darling girl of a beautiful friend.

Fabrics were all chosen before Maggie was known to the world as a girl! I think - hope - they work and that Maggie enjoys some fun times on it.

Now I just need to learn the art of making the hand quilting stitches all the same size.

Another cot quilt project is underway but after going to a class for advice I feel it is not going in the direction I want and now need to start again. Must hurry though, baby number 2 is due in under 8 weeks!

Finally!

The play-mat that I started whilst pregnant, had plans of completing when maternity leave commenced but was pushed to a corner with 'soon' hovering over it, due to the early arrival of Master G, is finally finished!

It was a labour of love - I've only been able to attack it in small snippets on weekends when hubby is home to listen out for Thomas due to the noisy old gal that is my sewing machine. I'd chosen the fabrics and started cutting out while I was pregnant but didn't start assembling and tackling the tricky bits (like the big circle) until recently. Poor lad is now 6 months old and only just getting his mat.....I told him it was a very special present for his half-birthday and he seemed happy with that!

As you can see from the photographs, the lady of the house wanted the photographs to be about her, not her favourite little man or the mat!

The gorgeous fleur pattern is by Onegirldesignwrks - I've previously made the mini version for my neice. I've used some fabrics that I had stashed away, waiting for a special project including Lecien and the gorgeous elephant and fanflower by Umbrella Prints. I also made a couple of rattle dice with the leftover fabric.

Now to finish the next of my UFOs!

Ink & Spindle textiles

On the weekend I dragged my boys off to the Ink and Spindle open day. I had wanted to attend their last open but missed it so was determined not to miss it this time and boy, am I glad we made it. Tegan and Lara have created a wonderful space, screen printing in an eco friendly way, with the most beautiful colours and designs. I wish I had half the talent these girls have! They were also most patient with us as we stood there being very indecisive about what to purchase - if I'd had more cash on me I would've bought so much more! I have coveted their fabrics for quite some time but wanted to see them in real life before purchasing.

In the end, the following fabrics were purchased and will be made into a quilt for the lad.

I think I will need to buy more as I didn't think about measurements (I blame baby brain) and really need more width, so these will probably be made into cushions. And, I am going to order some ginko in snow and red or blue wrens in snow for curtains for the lad's room. He really is going to have the best looking bedroom!

Desperately seeking

I came across this gorgeous Kokka fabric back at the start of the year. Having no real idea what i would do with it but thinking it too cute to resist I purchased 1mtr. Now though, I am desperately seeking many metres of it (to make nursery curtains and light shade with) but can't find it anywhere. How frustrating. Like a woman possessed, I trawl the 'net for hours each evening in search of it. Can the universe find me a fabric fairy with a solution, please.

I recently posted a picture of some fabrics that were to come together for a present for my friend Jess (who is now just six weeks away from having her baby). Thanks to the very generous help and advice of all of those involved in the Tuesday night class at Amitie I present my first ever attempt at quilting.

I enjoyed making this little pram blanket so much that I'm geared up to start something new this week.

Red

My oldest and dearest friend, Jess, is having a baby in June. VERY exciting. Anyway, I have collected gifts along the way for bub unknown but with Jess being such a close pal, I wanted to give her something more personal. The gender of bub is unknown, but the theme for the nursery is red. I experimented with a design on the comupter and a took a trip to Amitie on the weekend. These beautiful fabrics will, hopefully, come together to be part of my first ever attempt at a blanket. I am going along to a class at Amitie next week to get some guidance. Fingers crossed I can pull this off!

Getting crafty

My divine niece, Alana, celebrated her first birthday recently. I really wanted to give her something unique that she would have for years to come. Having made her a softie for christmas(a monkey who, opps, doesn't have a tail!) and with leftover fabric plus feeling decidely crafty, I thought I'd make her a special cushion. Thanks to Onegirldesignwrks, I didn't have to attempt my own pattern. The very talented Leslie has created a goregous Fleur pattern - this is my interpretation.
